I was wondering if somehow I won't be able to use my analog TV anymore. Are all cable and satellite systems have digital to analog converters anyway so we don't need digital TV's? I currently have Dishnetwork from SF, CA, USA.
"People who subscribe to cable or satellite will not be affected immediately "
By immediately you mean cable companies will likely no longer provide digital to analog output jacks on their boxes?
You will not be affected until they have to do the switch in 2012.

Update: Hey knuckleheads it's OTA broadcasts in 2009 and cable/sat in 2012.

Not only do you need software but you will need a TV tuner card. Most T tuner cards come with their own software but I am not sure what type of TV shows it will play.
Are you talking about taking a show from your DVR and playing it on your computer? If this is the question then again yes you will need software for this. I am not a software person so you might want to go to a Best Buy and ask them their and they should be able to steer you in the right direction. I hope this helps, Good Luck!
get your self a power good inverter so you can power both the tv and a lap top with , and wireless internet access , either through 1 of the phone companies , or a pay as you go , so you don't have to depend on free hot spots , TV reception will depend on where you are and the type of antenna you have
a 3- 400 watt inverter will power a small tv , make sure your chargeing system is working properly and concider a deep cycle battery , or duel use one so you don't drain it and are able to start your van
OK so i got a PC-RGB cable to let me watch things on my laptop on my tv. I plugged it into the laptop and the monitor, selected the PC-RGB input source on my tv, but it hasn't worked? Is there some software or something that you need, am I doing something wrong?
On your laptop, go to your desktop. Right click it and go to properties. Click on the settings tab. Make sure that the other monitor on this tab (it will actually be your tv, is "attached." Also, before you do any of this, make sure they are all plugged in like you have tried before.
Satellite tv for pc software is really becoming popular, I downloaded one as a birthday gift for my Kid Sister here http://bestsatellitetvforpcsoftwareonline.blogspot.com
I don't have DirecTV myself, so I can't speak from personal experience. However, unless cable Internet and DSL aren't available in your area, I wouldn't recommend satellite Internet.
It suffers from high latency (sometimes known as “ping”), which means there will be a noticeable delay before webpages start to download.
Keep in mind that in most areas, you don't need cable TV to have cable Internet (although you will generally save money by bundling multiple services).
I want to know why dreamtv in philippines has subscription fees aside from the installation fees..while others who owns or buy a satellite receiver dont pay for anything…why is that so..
There's an apples and oranges thing going on.
Dream TV is similar to the DirecTV and Dish Network business model in the US. Cable TV-type networks are available for a fee, so users have to pay to receive basic and premium content via subscription.
The so-called free to air satellite content can be pulled down for free, but it won't be of the HBO variety. These broadcasters find that they can make their money some other way than charging a subscription (more likely through pledge drives or borkered commercial time).
BTW, if any of your friends is receiving Dream TV or similar services for free, it's probably because they have managed to steal the service. Eventually they will be caught, though.
I have no idea about it.I am doing this for first time. Please help me out .
You don't
The RS232 port on satellite receivers etc is for technicials to use for diagnostices NOT to transfer the images to a PC
RD232 is WAY WAY WAY too slow to send video
U need to use a video output and also install avideo input solution in the PC, to use it.
Cheaper and simpler to have a cheap 2nd TV
I would like to start an internet TV station. Somethng along the lines of VH1 or MTV(Minus the reality TV shows).
I have done a bit of research and even wrote a business plan, on it.
Thing is I dont have the money or the knowledge about webcasting. I was wondering if there was a less expensive and small scale way for a novice to webcast live. I want to see if this kind of venture is worth the effort and if it will pay off financially.
You can start with a small capital.
Links provided that is related to the question and that would help
The internet and television are mostly seperate..
