It's an Insignia. I have the vga cables hooked up to the tower and the tv. I select vga input. The screen says there is no signal. Just a black screen. Then the tv goes dead. I tried to figure it out by going into the tv menu but when I select "vga set" it says there is no video input. AHHH! help!
The problem I have is that I can't use the computer at all as I have no other monitor. So if the problems in the computer I have no clue how to get to it.

I have an RCA to VGA cable and I can't seem to get it to work. Also my VGA colours are red, white and red whereas the cable's are red, green and blue…I'm confused! Any help would be appreciated.

the VGA doesnt have colors…it's the standard 15pin monitor connection and it's usually blue

if you just plugged the VGA into the computer's VGA output, then plugged the red,green,blue cables into the proper colors, it should be fine

Can a tv/computer monitor combo be used as a stand alone tv without being hooked up to a computer?

I'm not sure… you should ask if its built in. I have a Alienware laptop and i can hook it up to the TV… well at the back of my PS3 and play games on it haha and go online too!
