If you absolutely HAD to give one of them up FOREVER, which would you choose: all forms of TV, all forms of internet access, or all forms of cell phone use? Why would you give up the one you choose instead of the other two?
Assume if you pick TV you couldn’t watch dvds or watch on the internet either, if you pick cell phone you also couldn’t text or use a Blackberry or similar device, and if you pick internet you couldn’t use your cell or similar device to access the internet.
Easy question, since I don’t have a cell phone! I’d also like to legislation passed to ban cell phone use when a person is driving! Plus, if people had any manners, they wouldn’t use their cell phones in stores, churches, or any other public place unless *absolutely* necessary! We got along very well without cell phones in the USA until the late Twentieth Century!
I’ve seen some advertisements for getting tv on your computer with loads and loads of channels. The advertisements seem a little suspicious, like you’re not really going to get what you think you are. Is it worth getting? Expensive? Can you get cable channels? I just canceled my cable due to the expense and was hoping to find a cheaper way to watch tv. What few network channels I get now come in fuzzy since all I have for reception is rabbit ears. I thought maybe the computer would possibly offer a solution.
Be very suspicious, there is no such thing as free anything. All it is, is a list of ’stations’ that you can find yourself by visiting websites like ABC News, etc. To get decent TV for free, you need to get a Yagi-Uda antenna like you see on top of homes. They aren’t expensive, but it’s a bit of work to put up. If that’s out, then you might also contact some local amateur radio groups and ask questions. Most are friendly and would be glad to help.
If that’s too much work, companies like Trek make several inexpensive antennas that you can get that will out preform your rabbit ears, but don’t expect Yagi quality. Try Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon.com, etc. A Yagi (like you see on top of peoples homes - pronounced yag-eee) is the best, period.
If you don’t want to buy anything, try this, put the rabbit ears out as far as they go. Push them down flat. Point it down 90 degrees to where the TV broadcast tower is at. You should get a bit better signal. To find where they are at, check out the FCC’s website below. It should give you a map if you search. And you may find stations you don’t know about.
I can get stations from 250 miles away on a good day, and at least 150 on a bad with my Yagi. It’s the install that’s the hard part, but once that’s done it’s easy.
ok so I have this tv
http://www.hdtvsolutions.com/Philips-42PF7421D-37.htm
and I have a regular PC (toshiba if that matters)
I’m trying to convert the tv to a pc, (so that whatever shows in the pc will show on the tv)
My tv doesn’t have a SVGA cable cord part (http://www.whatdoesthatlooklike.com/images/svga-cable.jpg) so I cannot get the regular 2 sided svga cable….
I got svga to rca cable instead (http://www.1topstore.com/images/products_images/unfurl/vga-to-rca-cable-1652.jpg)
the guy at the electronics store said it will work, but when i connect it it doesn’t show anything on tv (I put it on dvd, video or any other channel still nothing)
I was wandering if I am doing something wrong…..
thanks a lot please help
You have to turn on the S Video in your computer settings….get out the book for your computer and see how to turn on S-Video.
Hehe I just played a vid of a dog barking on youtube and my dog ran back and forth barking trying to find the dog, then looked up at the computer with a serious gaze and started barking at it, then ran to the window and started barkign and running back and forth….hehehehe
No, mine doesn’t but my aunts pug, Lola goes crazy when she sees any animal or person on TV. It’s so stinkin funny!
I would like to install satellite tv but do not want to be out the expense of rewiring my entire house. Is my old tv cable wiring compatible with Direct Tv?
yes and no -since a Satellite needs a receiver to un-encryte the signal to be viewed-meaning if you connect your coaxial cable to the receiver you can watch tv thru out the whole house but its only the channel the receiver is tuned too-unlike cable-if you do get a sat set up they will run a rg6 cable from the sat dish to your receiver which is alot better than rg5—now the yes part you can get by with using the old rg5 cables but the signal will be greatly compromised -i have dishnet and my house is wired to other tvs thru the coaxial port to the rest of the house using rg5 using a splitter to my kids tv in their rooms but it is greatly diminished signal -but they can only watch what we are watching down stairs unless you get a multi room set up
Here are you can get it.http://itgoogle.net/
my son (18 months) likes to watch rhymes ,songs, movie on TV/laptop ,this is easy way to feed him ,i also like this habit but is there any harm for his eyes & in his brain development
There’s not neccesarily any pysical HARM in letting your son watch movies, the concern professionals have with all this TV watching is that there are so many BETTER choices for kids to be doing, like playing games and being more interactive with other humans rather than electronics. Just think of when you’ve gotten really immersed in a good movie. You know there wasn’t much stimulation going on, you were zoning out. Think about how different it would be if you were sitting around discussing that same movie with some friends. How much more interactive you all would be!! TV does the same thing to kids- they just zone out, and there’s not really much going on in their brains. They need to be interactive to truly learn the things even "educational" shows and videos act like they teach. Kids also need to be physically active as much as possible, but when you’re watching TV or a computer, you’re just sitting on your butt doing nothing.
You said that letting him watch a TV/laptop is an easy way to feed him. Have you tried talking to him about the food? You could name all the foods he’s eating, talk to him about how the plants grow, how they help his body grow big and strong, (That milk will help your bones grow strong! And those carrots will help your eyes see ‘puppies’! or whatever he likes), that sort of thing. Ask him questions about the food to help build his vocabulary. That will keep him busy and be much better for his brain.
Hope this helps~
Check out the site in my source it has the top four programs available (well top three i think)
The first one on that site is my preferred option.
No PC-TV software is perfect simple as that but for the price these programs are the best you could find.
You will not get quality as good as actual satellite or cable however they can be pretty good providing you have a decent internet connection.
I’ll say this up front: I’m not looking to steal satellite channels that I would have to pay for (although I am a bit curious as to how that works, but that’s not what this question is about).
I have a satellite TV dish and a satellite receiver box. If the brands matter, I can post additional information. I do not subscribe to satellite TV and I do not have any cards that go into the receivers.
Are there any freely available satellite channels, and if so, where can I find information about the location of the satellites and anything else I need to do to receive the channels?
My receiver box is Hughes Network Systems Model HIRD-B2 and also says on it Star Sight and DSS (a registered trademark of DIRECTV Inc, a unit of Hughes Electronics Corp). I have a round satellite dish from DirecTV.
Yes, the equipment matters. Much of the satellite transmissions now days are digital and you must have a digital receiver for those. A good part are encrypted, but there is still some stuff in the clear. Also, there is some analog programming still up there.
Here is a link to what’s up in the sky, have fun. http://www.lyngsat.com/
ADDITIONAL ANSWER: That equipment is specific to DirecTV and will only work with their service. You must purchase a subscription from DirecTV to make that equipment work.
Does anyone have A satellite tv for pc software to recommend? I am interested in getting one of these packages so I can consider getting rid of my monthly cable bill and I have heard some are reasonably priced. Thanks
In my opinion the best software for this is the satellite direct package. There are some free options out there you can look into but I purchased the satellite direct package myself and I have been very happy with it. You get 3,000 channels in hd and when I purchased through the web site I have listed as my source they were running A 70% discount on it. I am not sure if that deal is still going on but you can check.
I paid 50 bucks for it and there are no recurring monthly payments so I thought it was A pretty awesome deal. But it all depends on if you want to spend money because you can watch satellite tv on your pc for free if you just do A search on google for some of the free satellite providers but it probably won’t be as good as the satellite direct package.
