Will your computer run faster through wifi or actually plugging an ethernet cable into it?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 6:39 pm

I have a D-Link Xtreme wireless N router and a compatible wifi card in my laptop. I was wondering if I would get better performance using my wifi or plugging an ethernet cable into my computer. I have a gigabit ethernet port on my laptop.

You would get better performance in terms of networking to other computers in your house; however, I think you mean better performance on the Internet. The answer is no. You have gigabit (1024 megabit) wired ethernet. You have wireless N (160 megabit). At best, if you have super-premium Internet service, then your internet is 20 megabit. So 1024 vs 160 isn’t going to make any difference when the bottleneck is your 20 Mb Internet.

My elderly parents have a Web TV internet connection and they get between 45 and 75 pieces of spam mail per da?

Can someone give me some advice as to how to prevent spam emails on Web TV?

It appears that webtv has a spam blocker that sends spam to a junk mail folder. If they’re getting spam and it’s going there, then that’s as it should be.

If, however, they’re getting spam that goes to their inbox, I think it’s time to contact webtv tech support. Maybe there’s another option they can give your parents, like a whitelist-only filter (only known addresses get in).

I think you have to talk to the source.

What device would I record from the TV to the computer?

Filed under: tv on my computer — admin @ 6:39 pm

I have this device called a Dazzle but it’s not the best it seems. I get semi good quality and with that my files come out HUGE. Where others get better quality and the MB come out way smaller, what nice device would give me A++ Picture quality and that won’t make the files mega huge?

I think there isn’t anything like that on the web that I can download for free at least for the video softwar. But I’m willing too buy, because I’m most likely going to have to buy the thing that hooks up from my tv to computer.

You need a graphic card that takes the right cables, if you don’t have that already you can for the money buy TV Tuner cards. You can hook coax cable to them and watch cable TV or regular TV, some even come with remotes, and most let you record what you watch, they range anywhere form 30-200 dollars. Try bestbuy, they have a few

Would it be a copyright infringement if started a internet tv channel and i had nickelodeon shows on it?

Filed under: internet tv channels — admin @ 6:38 pm

even if i had a copyright disclaimer stating that i do not own the shows that i put on the channel and that i give full credit to nickelodeon and im not making a profit of it. but i have my channel logo on my channel. please answer its important best answer gets 10 points

Yes. The lawyers for Viacom (Nickelodeon’s parent company) will thank you for the practice. Legally, you’re going to need legal clearances from Nickelodeon (and possibly have to purchase the rights to some series produced outside MTV Networks, which Nickelodeon is part of) before you can legally stream the Nick program backlog.

Besides…do you remember the crap a couple of years ago between Viacom and YouTube?

Can I improve the quality of the image projected from my laptop to TV screen?

Filed under: tv on laptop — admin @ 6:38 pm

I’ve just linked my Acer laptop to my old TV using an s-video to s-video cable which I’ve connected to the TV using a sacrt adaptor.

The quality of picture is really rubbish. I changed the resolution to 800×600 but there was no change.

Is this poor quality to be expected or is there something I can do to improve it?

Thank you!

Remember S-video is a relic from the days of analog low-definition boob-tube TVs. The poor image quality is a limitation of S-video– Nothing you can do to improve it. That’s how crappy S-video is.

That is why HDTVs use better connections like HDMI.

Has anyone out there tried free online tv via the PC?

Filed under: free pc tv — admin @ 6:37 pm

I know there are web pages that offer free tv. Satellite direct, for example, says do away with your cable access. Does it really work that you can do away with your cable access? And is really free?

Its not free. live tv to pc is great but cost about 50.00 to down load but well worth it if you
are into Fancast , Vuse and Crackle, where you can view all old tv shows , for
example Have Gun, Will Travel with Richard Boone

If television and internet is so unhealthy why can’t it be banned?

Filed under: television on internet — admin @ 12:02 pm

What would happen if television and internet were banned?

Its not that unhealthy if used sensibly.
There are many educational tv shows and whats wron with some escapism every now and then from the stresses of life, by watching a good comedy or soap.
The internet can be used for many things too, Facebook is great to stay in conact with people, old and new friends, and there are plenty of sites you can use for research, also helpful things like AA route finder and the train times sites. its also great for booking holidays, tickets or buying online.
Everything in moderation. I love the internet, and i love tv, but i also enjoy going out with real people, i enjoy the outside, visiting houses, the zoo, the beach etc.
There can be room for everything!
