That being said, eventually they will be one and the same. With On-Demand services available from cable and DirecTV you are already starting to get the instant access like with internet. TV shows are being rebroadcast over network websites. Apple TV, VUDU and Netflicks are already offering direct movie downloads to watch on the TV through the internet. Further advances like IPTV are being worked out and Media Center PCs are all the rage. Pretty soon you will have advanced GUIs and simple remotes that act as a mouse to access any part of the internet right through your TV(Think Wii nunchucks). PS3 and XBox360 can already do this.
If you don’t think it is all combining just think of all the things your phone can do right now. It is called convergence.

I plugged the S-Video Cable into my tv and computer and on my tv I have sound from my computer and my tv displays my desktop background (just the background wallpaper, no icons or anything). How can I fix this so I can display what is happening on my computer on my tv set? As I said all I can see right now is my background wallpaper and the sound is playing. Sounds like your TV is the ’second’ monitor.

There’s probably a function button on your laptop to switch between outputs, so use that if possible. Fn + somekey will do it. Probably one of the F keys?

"Netbooks" or "webbooks" will have a port for a CAT5 cable/ethernet cable as well as a wireless network card. Basically, its a small notebook with reduced capabilities.

You need all the equipment you would normally use on any other computer. Unless you’re using that 3G network adapter card or whatever the proper term is.
