Is there such a thing as a computer cable that can hook from my laptop to the TV?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 7:58 am

Here is my problem. I am trying to find a computer cord that will allow me to use powerpiont on a tv. I need a cord that would allow me to hook my laptop from the USB port to the TV so that i could use powerpoint when i teach the youth group. PLEASE HELP!!!

Some laptops (mine for example) have a second monitor output and you can choose which monitor to use, the laptop, external or both.

If you have this facility, you can get an SVGA to UHF or an SVGA to RGB or maybe an SVGA to SCART.

Do a search for "SVGA adapter", there are thousands of different versions. See what is available on the TV and pick one to match.

Good Luck

I have the USB cable thing-y hooked up to my digital camera and my computer, now what do I do?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 9:09 am

How do I transfer my pictures on my digital camera to my computer? The cable is hooked up to both, but what are the next steps? I have a Kodak Easy ShareV550 camera and an hp pavilion mx70 computer w/ windows 98…

I had the same problem….First, its recommended that you have kodak easyshare….You can get that from ((http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/software/easyshare/en/dln_ekn026079.jhtml?pq-path=4509)). Second, before you hook up the camera to the computer, turn the camera on. Once the camera is on and plugged in, open easyshare, click on tools (top right corner) then something like sync and transfer, then transfer…that should work for you….

Please consider as a best answer :-)

Is there a site on the web or downloadable program to watch cable on computer?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 11:42 am

I have found some programs that let you watch non cable tv but none that lets you watch cable

I have heard of some TV stations starting to show their episodes on the internet for free…probably what you’ve already heard of. There are also sites where you can download torrent files for a lot of TV episodes.

Or if you already have cable for your home, you can get a TV tuner card for your computer that will let you plug the cable into your computer and watch it that way…and record to your hard drive.

My internet and tv thru same cable company-computer keeps going out could it be they are too close in wall?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 11:13 am

Computer in office (bedroom) and tv in living room-only thin wall between the two rooms back to back-any idea if this could be source for computer breaking every 6 months? TV will get fuzzy lines thru it if I turn on computer sometimes.

Have you checked with your cable provider? I had a similar problem and they ran a dedicated line from the interface to my computer. Problem solved.

Ok i have a router have a cable modem, computer and xbox?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 10:43 am

I am tryign to hook it up so i can have my computer online at the same time i am on xbox live, but for somereason it wont work i have to conenct each one up alone from the modem. yet when i plug it in to the router and plug the 2 cables from the router to the computer and xbox neither of them work. what am i doing wrong?

Cable modems only allow access to a single MAC address. when you plug in a computer to the modem, the modem stores the computer’s MAC address. When you plug the router into the modem, the modem will not work as it is looking for your computers MAC address, and your routers MAC address does not match. For you, there are two fixes.

1. Unplug the power from the cable modem for a good 5 minutes. This is the only way to make a modem ‘forget’ the MAC address it was talking to. Then connect the router to the modem.

Or..

2. Connect your computer to your router. Access the router’s configuration screen on your computer. (Check routers instructions if you don’t know how) One of the settings should include ‘MAC address cloning’. Clone your PC’s MAC address. This will make the MAC address on your router the same as your computer so the modem will now speak to it. Then you can connect the 360 to the router as well and use both the 360 and PC with no issues.

S-Video Cable: Computer to TV Question?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 9:32 am

I plugged the S-Video Cable into my tv and computer and on my tv I have sound from my computer and my tv displays my desktop background (just the background wallpaper, no icons or anything). How can I fix this so I can display what is happening on my computer on my tv set? As I said all I can see right now is my background wallpaper and the sound is playing. I am using ATI Mobility™ Radeon® X1400

Sounds like your TV is the ’second’ monitor.

There’s probably a function button on your laptop to switch between outputs, so use that if possible. Fn + somekey will do it. Probably one of the F keys?

If not try going to display properties and select the TV as primary display device

What is the name of this certain Computer cable?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 7:58 am

I’ve been trying to find this certain cable for a long time but I don’t know the name of it at all! It connects to both the TV and the Laptop and then whatever happens on the ‘top happens on the TV. I know it exists, my Youth Group teacher has it but when I asked her about it she said that it depends on the type of laptop you have, I have a Windows Vista.

Please Help! It will be much appreciated!

I will have to cordially disagree with the other responses here.

The thing I do agree with is that we need more information in order to truly know. Specifically, the specific laptop you’re referring to. Even then, many if not all laptops are configurable, making knowing which one you have less valuable.

I’m going to take a guess here and say that you are most likely referring to an svideo cable http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svideo . This cable type is quite common among laptops, and TV’s alike, making it a very likely choice. A word of warning though, even though it’s *fairly* common, it’s not *very* common on either laptops or TV’s. Due to this, if the cable you’re talking about is indeed an svideo cable, please before getting one ensure that the TV and the laptop both have svideo capability. Also, verify that it is s-video and not 7P (7-pin mini-DIN). They look very similar, but one requires a different plug.

There are also some really interesting things you can get, like s-video to component, vga to svideo, 7P to s-video and composite, etc. Before getting any unstandard cables (all of these I’ve listed with the exception of s-video aren’t standard), remember that sometimes they can be difficult or impossible to use without the proper combination of equipment.

S-Video http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812816081&cm_re=s-video-_-12-816-081-_-Product
S-Video to composite http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814999015&cm_re=s-video-_-14-999-015-_-Product

… and now for the really crazy stuff

VGA to SVIDEO and RCA F Cable http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9812
7P to SVIDEO Cable http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9811
VGA to S-video and 3RCA F Cable http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9813

Anyway, hope that was helpful. Just remember that a lot of times, cables aren’t the only piece to the puzzle. Many times your laptop will have built in hardware which makes this possible in the first place, the cable is just a way to get that from the laptop to the TV.

HDMI DVI cable computer connection + problem?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 7:11 am

I hooked up a male to male DVI HDMI cable form my video card to my tv screen (Sharp 32" LCD) this is my computer monitor. Unfortuantely I have a problem. The screen is adjusted slightly too big and I can barely see the START button. I have been tryin to adjust the size from my display properties and I have has NO LUCK. Is there anyway I can make it smaller? I cant find a selection on my computer nor my tv that lets me adjust the size of the image on my computer. The color is phenomal though.

Take a look at a utility called PowerStrip from here: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm

It’s designed for working with custom resolutions and refresh rates. You can also find more information about hooking up TVs to computers at AVSforum.com

i have the cable, computer, phone from time warner cable,?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 8:31 pm

when i turn on the computer to get on the internet …it says no connection do you want to work offine? how do i get my connection back? what happend to it in the first place to be disconnected?
i changed the room around and move the computer to the other side of the room…

I take it you are also using a cable modem if so then you need to plug the ethernet cable back into the computer. When you move your stuff around you either unplug or cut the cable by mistake.

Can you get an internet connection on your iphone from ur laptop/computer/cable one modem ???if so HOW?

Filed under: cable on computer — admin @ 6:19 am

AT&T isn’t "officially" allowing this yet because they have yet to setup a "premium" plan for the iPhone tethering. But if you jailbreak your iPhone you can use programs such as PDA Net to tether your iPhone to your computer with a wireless router….be warned though, using tethering with the iPhone is strictly against AT&T’s poilicies, and if you download too much data over the 3G/Edge connection they will first warn you, and then on another incident possibly cancel your service for breach of contract, so use moderately.
