I mean why can I record 2 movies and watch a third on satellite tv all in HD when it would take me days to download 3 movies of HD quality on the internet? Why can’t internet speed be as fast as satellite tv?
Because you are picking up a broadcast signal with TV, whereas you are one of many people downloading an individual file to an individual computer when you are downloading. With TV, only one signal is being sent by the whole system, whereas with the internet, many different signals are being sent simultaneously.
If you want to receive satellite tv directly you need hardware (card or USB).
The programs you can download do not catch a satellite signal, they just
receive a stream via internet.
However the quality is worse than using hardware and the channels they offer
are sometimes worthless.
I tested about 20 of these programs with more or less good results.
Good thing is you can watch channels from countries you will not get via regional satellite.
There is a pretty big world for the "TV on PC" experience. I am making attempt to cheat life by ditching my television provider. The bill for watching a variety of shows from Comcast is too high, and a lot of the shows aren’t even that good!
Thats when I turned to getting television on PC.
I know you can get local channels via TV-tuners that are both internal and external. But thats not exactly my goal.
[1] ~Am I able to get high-quality satellite television on my computer screen?
A search on Google for satellite TV on PC lead to a BOMBARDMENT of ads like "Download this software for $50 and you get 3000+ channels! That sounds like nonsense. The quality is probably horrid, and there might be lots of lag
Maybe the best way is hardware.
[2] Is there any satellite TV company that provides a satellite TV tuner, as well as there service to watch channels on my PC? (Preferably cheap)
Any information on your experience with this is needed! If I was unclear on anything, let me know.
1 - No
2 - No
I sell satellite but would love to offer satellite tv on PC but it is a long ways out. Cable companies want to sell you tv service as well, so they limit your bandwidth. Hence, no hi quality video service.
TV stations and content providers don’t want the same problems the the music industry is having with pirated content - they have more control with broadcast tv.
Now you can get some media, but never as much or with the same ease of satellite or cable tv providers.
I have been looking around for something to download that would allow me to stream live tv to my mac without having to get any new hardware. I don’t mind if it costs money (as long as it’s not a monthly fee), I just want it to work properly, especially better than the jumpy free versions.
I found a program called "satellite tv for pc" that is for the pc and looks as though it is a scam, but the idea behind it is exactly what I am looking for.
Thanks for the input.
Nope - you need hardware. Your Mac doesn’t have a TV Tuner to decode cable and over-the-air video feeds.
The good news is that the Elgato EyeTV is exactly what you need and, while it’s classified as hardware, it simply plugs into a free USB port. It also comes with DVR software for Mac that makes it work a lot like a TiVO: you can record shows to your hard drive and then edit them however you want.

I live in a large house; we pay for satellite TV, and most people have tivos in their rooms. I have a very small room and a very nice laptop, so I’d rather not get a TV; I watch HULU all the time, and would like to simply plug the satellite tv connection into my computer, watch if on the screen. How do I do this? I’ve spent awhile on the internet, but all I can find are scams that tell me that I can watch 3000 channels for free if I just download some software, "no dish required" yada yada. Well, I have the dish. What else do I need?
As you said, you need a software for you to access those channels. And you also need a good internet speed, maybe at least 1Mbps and up. This will prevent lag and buffering of videos.
You just need to find reviews on each software you find before purchasing.
It says in the help that something is supposed ot automatically download, nothing did. I tried many times to fix it and nothing. HELP PLEASE!!!
after buying it, did you let them try to check if it’s working?
if yes, your mac or your modem might be in firewall. check the firewall settings and disable it temporarily.
I am trying to connect my laptop to my TV through a VGA cable but my laptop does not have the VGA input downloaded. Where can I find it? Also what would be the name of it because I am on the Toshiba downloads and there is bunch of weird names that do not have VGA.
Once VGA is connected to the VGA port of your TV, right click on your desktop then click properties then click settings. Click on the secondary monitor. If you have the option for dual screen select it or you can choose clone. Explore the best configuration for you.

The company claims that for $50 you can download software that allows you to watch thousands of satellite channels from all over the world. It’s pretty new software and I wasn’t able to find many reviews online, especially ones from average people. Has anyone purchased this? Does it work and how well? I’d love to get rid of my dish and save that money each month, but want to make sure this isn’t a scam.

The problem is that none of these types of programs can live up to their hype. At their best, all they can do is link you to stuff that is already free on the Internet.
No matter what, they can’t legally give you the kind of programing that Dish or Direct TV offer.
There is a lot of programing that you can access with just your browser, see hulu.com for example.
You can also download TVU which is a free program that is similar the the "Satellite TV XXX" programs. It’s been around for years and is well known.
You also need high speed internet service to get decent quality video.
