Have you done a tv/computer free week with your kids? How’d it go?

Filed under: tv on computer — admin @ 12:42 am

My son and I spend way too much time on the computer and watching movies, so I’m thinking about doing a tv/computer free week. Hopefully we’d be more motivated to try out some awesome summer-ness activites and whatnot. Have you guys done this before? How’d it go?

Nightmare so far. We are trying to keep the TV off for two weeks instead of one because the longer we leave it off the less likely my daughter is going to be glued to it again. We unplugged the TV on Thursday and put it away in the attic. Since then my daughter has done nothing but scream and cry, however she has been easier to put to sleep because all the screaming has tired her out.
She is only two but she is glued to the TV, has little interest in anything else but my husband and I aren’t TV people. She is just really into the TV and neither of us understand why. She sits in front of it even when off which is why we put it in the attic. I want her to be off the hook of the TV by the time the twins come as I want her to try and be involved even if it is just picking up clean nappies.
Hopefully tomorrow she won’t ask about the TV if we manage to get out of the house and go on the river like we had planned to do today but never did.

TV / Computer screen wall mounts that don’t make holes in the wall?

Filed under: tv on computer — admin @ 12:07 am

I’m looking around for wall mounts that don’t require putting holes in the wall. It;s a tough question to ask I know, I’ve visited my local Target, Walmart, even Bestbuy, and they said they can’t think of anything on the top of their heads.

I’m rather curious if anyone in the open world might have an answer.

I just hooked my computer up with three ATI HD 6990 video cards. So Obviously I am looking to expand my monitors.

You could always use some good, sturdy planks of wood, and build a "wall" to mount the wall-mounts. I know in our local hardware store they actually sell pre-made minimalist wooden stands for mounting your TV or Monitor higher than your desk without damaging your wall. They cost about £30 ($50) but that’s because they use thick, treated and painted wood.

Women do you like being portrayed as sex objects on tv, the computer and in public?

Filed under: tv on computer — admin @ 11:03 am

Never really hear about women speaking out against this

I don’t. There is a difference in being viewed as desirable and desired only for sex. With people whom I am sexual with I want to be viewed as sexually desirable. When strangers notice me, I do not care for being looked at with desire. It makes me feel uncomfortable, threatened, and vulnerable. With any man (partner or stranger) I cannot imagine ever wanting to be desired only as an object for a man to have sex to/with.

What cable do I need to put my computer screen onto my tv?

Filed under: tv on computer — admin @ 7:37 pm

Hey all, just looking for the name of the cable that I need to watch a movie (that’s on my computer) on the tv screen. Thanks.

You can do it through VGA, HDMI or DVI. (S-video will also work, but the quality will be poor).

Look at the back of the computer, and the back of the TV and find the output / input that matches.

Example of VGA

HDMI

DVI

S-Video

Finally you can run HDMI -> DVI

NOTE: In most cases HDMI -> HDMI will have both audio and video. In all other cases you’ll need to run a second wire through sound.

That will likley be a mini-phono cable:

But again check the back of your PC and the back of your TV.

Learn meditation, it calms down the mind and body so both can be controlled. Google "meditation for beginers" and give it a try.

How do I sharpen the image on my TV/Computer?

Filed under: tv on computer — admin @ 7:50 pm

I connected my computer to my TV and the images and text are to blurry I’ve messed with resolution and increased the sharpness on the TV but I can’t get it good enough.1024×728 is the biggest I can get it before its to big for the TV.

Try downloading ClearType and trying the different configurations. ClearType makes it easier to read text in Windows.

I have dropped cable tv, can I get a cord to run to my tv so that I can watch shows from my computer on my tv?

Filed under: tv on computer — admin @ 11:18 am

I have a HP computer
so I can ask for the correct connector when I go to the store. please explain in simple terminology, as I’m not very tech savvy

The type of computer is unimportant. What is important is the type of television you have. If you have a large, older, bulky type (CRT) then this might be more difficult for you to do.

However, if you have a flat screen television (LCD, LED, OLED, Plasma, etc.) then this will be quite simple for you.

Here is how you do it:

If your computer has a blue port on the back of it in the shape of a trapezoid, find a cable that looks just like it, but with pins, and plug one end into your TV and the other into the laptop. If this is too difficult to understand without visuals, here is a video on Youtube to help:

There are other ports, such as DVI or HDMI. The process is the same, the ports and cables simply look different. These are just for video, however.

For audio you will almost definitely need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm or 1/8" to 1/8" (they are the same thing) if your TV is a flat screen. If your TV is a CRT, you will need a 3.5mm or 1/8" to RCA audio (red and white).

If you would still like to get cable television shows like Saturday Night Live or The Young and The Restless, you should download and install HuluDesktop. It is free, but has commercials that last from 15 seconds to one minute, (still better than t.v.).

Hope this helps!

Do I need to get cable tv for a tv/computer screen to work?

Filed under: tv on computer — admin @ 9:08 am

To save space I was wondering if I could get a tv screen that I could also use as my primary computer screen whenever I want to use the computer. Can I do this and what kind of TV screen should I get for this?
Time Warne has this tv & internet package, but I don’t watch that much tv. I was wondering if I just get the internet package would I still be able to watch some basic tv on the set?

You asked two questions:

1. A modern high definition TV with HDMI inputs would do the trick.

2. If you just get internet you can watch some basic TV through multiple streaming sources like HULU, and others. Most people trying to "cut the cord" add Netflix instant which will give you many free movies and shows for $8/month.
