I have windows 7. I plugged my laptop into my tv with a VGA cord and everything worked like it was supposed to, however, the reslolution was at a setting that was cutting off the sides of my screen. I went into ‘adjust screen resolution on my control panel and set it to 1024×768. It was on like 1128x 800 or something but that resolution fit the tv screen perfectly. After that, I clicked the drop down bar on multiple displays and set it to ‘display desktop only on moniter 2′(the tv). My computer screen went off as expected but the tv screen did too and displayed ‘unsupported signal’.I unplugged the vga cord and my computer’s screen came back on but the tv’s moniter diapeared from the display choices before i could change it back to duplicate these displays.Now, whenever i pllug my computer into the tv, I get the same message on the tv and my computer screen disapears.
I cant change the settings for my tv. it disapears from the list of moniters when i unplug it. how do i change settings?
Computer monitors are made better than big screen TVs. I use Sapphire 6970 or when I used 5670 and hooked up VGA to TV the TV would auto display resolution, when clicking into out of games, sometimes border was outside inside, and sometimes perfect. You may need to try different settings to get it right, or it just may not be compatible. My Sapphire HDMI 1.4 out put to TV works fine.
I am not talking about sites like hulu - there you can watch previous TV episodes. Has anyone tried those softwares that claim to get you thousands of live channels around the world? You pay something like $40 for the software and off you go. One is called Ivision TV. Scam?

I’d like to be able to play computer games and watch tv (at the same time) even when my fiancee goes to bed early without bothering her. How do I combine the two signals so that I can listen to them on headphones?

What you need is called a "mixer". It can take several inputs, mix them together an create one output. It has individual volume controls for each input. Here is an example of one that would probably work for you….

You can get a tuner card and watch free antenna.
A lot of stuff isn’t free because they would sooner you buy DVDs, or downloads, or subscribe to cable.
