You need to go into the settings for the TV and switch the input from your regular TV input to PC. How to do that depends on the design of the TV, and you might need to find the manual for your TV if it isn’t obvious.
I do not have access to a vcr where I will need to play the footage.
It helps if you explain that this is a VHS-C camcorder. You will need a capture card for you pc, such as I have on my website.

Your AV cables will go into the card and it comes with capture software.
Okay, so I am trying to watch a movie from my laptop onto my tv. Problem is this, there’s a white bar on both the top and bottom of the screen, almost, as if I am watching.. widescreen, only white, and after like 10 minutes the color drives me nuts, how can i remove this, or even just make is black? Please help, I am about to have a seizure!
Depending on the TV…
On the remote you should have a button that sais P.Size or Picture Size.
You push that button and it should remove the bars from top and bottom.
I just bought a vga cord today and I have connected the tv and laptop. The resolution is set to 1024×768. When I connected them I turned the computer on and the only thing I see on my tv is my screen saver. I can’t see any icons but if I slide all the way to the right of my screen with my mouse it will end up on the tv and no longer on the laptop. Please help… Please be specific bc I am not the best with computers. Thanks!
I don’t see the extend desktop or anything similar in the lower right of my screen or anywhere on my screen actually…Any other ideas?
This feature is called extended desktop, and is implemented a little differently by different laptop makers, but the principle should be the same. There should be an icon on your lower right for manipulating the desktop. right click on it and specify "Clone" mode rather than "extended desktop" mode — or something similar in concept.
Good luck!
is there like a special cord you have to use to connect your laptop to your TV? Are there only certain cords that are only compatible with certain laptops?
your only possible solution is a PC to TV converter box. You can try your own search to find your personal preference but I would be willing to bet that there is not a reasonably priced one in your area (if one is for sale in stores in your area at all). I will include a link to one at Fry’s Electronics if there is one near you as well as some internet sales links.

I’m using laptop Dell Inspiron 6000 n i wanna get my audio n video output on my Panasonic TV, so if there some way then pls help me out…Thanx in advance….
That laptop looks to have an S-Video port on it. If you plug one end of an S-Video (the round connector next to your rectangular VGA port) cable to the laptop, and the other to the back of your TV, you should be able to get your video out.
Next, you have to get the audio to the TV. The back of your TV should have multiple sets of white-and-red pairs of what they call RCA jacks. You want to find the pair that go to the S-Video port you’re using.
At Radio Shack (or a similar store) you can find a cable that has the white-and-red RCA jacks at one end, which go to a 1/8" stereo audio jack at the other end. Plug that end into your Headphone or Line Out jack on the laptop, and the RCA jacks into the back of the TV.
In the past, my roommates have plugged their laptops into their tvs. my tv is slightly older, however I do have an S-Video cable. However, when I plug it into my tv and laptop, the tv doesn’t display the picture on my laptop. what might i be doing wrong, and how can I make this work?
Make sure you are channeling to the right input.. Just play with it a bit. Also, the most frequent problems people usually have is displaying their laptop to their television. Make sure on your laptop, you’re pressing FN + F7 or F8.. Just play with it a bit.. Here’s a video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrQ-jxNQZgQ&feature=related
I just purchased a HP laptop, it says you can watch tv on the laptop but i have no idea how to do that. There is an option on the laptop to record tv. How and where do i connect the cable wire to the laptop so i can watch cable channels.

I havea Gateway laptop and I want to hook it up to my TV. How can I hook it up i have a HD15n female on the back of the computer but not on the tv. All I have on the tv is a hdmi rca plugs (the green yellow plugs) as a serial (the computer dont have a serial) can someone help me. The tv is 2 years old and the computer is 3 years old
A HD15n female is better known as VGA connection. You can connect your laptop to a TV but it is going to cost you an expensive converter box that costs $175 http://www.startech.com/item/VGAHD2HDMI-VGA-HD-with-Audio-to-HDMI-Format-Converter.aspx
Here is a long discussion about VGA to HDMI http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/310199
Is the VGA connection the only connection you have on the computer? If you have S Video connection a converter would be much cheaper. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video
Ok, i know how to connect the internet to the xbox and my laptop to it without an adapter. I have windows 7 and i wanna watch movies from my lappy to my tv. Do i need a cable going from the xbox to the tv in a special way, or just the yellow and white cords?
your xbox itsnt even included in the conundrum you are trying to fix (that is if you are trying to watch movies from your laptop to TV only) all you need for most new laptops and HD TVs is an HDMI cable and it goes from your laptop to tv, if not you dont have a laptop and tv with these ports, then yes you need a special cable
