I put my laptop under my tv, so its a pain to open it up every time I want to watch something. I thought maybe a wireless keyboard with a power button could work. I don’t use this as my primary computer, I only use it when I want to watch videos from my computer on the big tv.
A wireless keyboard won’t work, especially if the computer is completely shutdown, what you can do is to enable Wake On LAN (or magic packets) in your laptop, and turn it on with a cell phone or another computer (with a WOL client), but it will only work if your laptop is cabled and only from a sleep state probably.
I’m interested in buying a ps3 and the only TV that is up for use in my house is the one in the living room. and that’s not going to fly with my parents. so i was wondering if i could use my laptop instead of an actual TV. my laptop has an HDMI port on it, but i don’t know if it would work.
No, the HDMI port on your laptop is an output port - not an input port. You would need a video capture card or TV tuner for your laptop (most are USB devices) which would provide you with various video inputs. However, doing HD is quite expensive and even if you bought on, these devices tend to add a bit of lag to the video signal, making them unsuitable for playing games.
Yo,
Okay.. I wanna know how to connect my laptop to my TV.
My laptop has a VGA port i believe, my laptop doesn’t have HDMI port though,
So basically i think i need a, VGA female to HDMI cable? Correct if im wrong.
My TV has a HDMI port (4 of them).
If this is right, can someone send me a link on where i could get one.
Thanks
If you want to connect with HDMI and only have a VGA out connector on your laptop yes you will need the VGA to HDMI connector and an HDMI cable. Keep in mind though that VGA out does not transmit sound in which case depending on what kind of sound in connector you have on your TV you will need a cable that runs sound out from your headphones port on your laptop to your sound in port on your TV or use your laptop speakers for sound. Both cables and connectors on ebay are really cheap.

Is there a cable which I can connect from laptop to TV so I can watch pictures stored in my laptop on TV?
Go to http://www.svideo.com, at this site they will display all Cables Cords - Connectors and Configurations, as well as an Online Instructional Video.
Does anyone know how to play movies from my Dell laptop on my tv? The laptop has a s-video jack, but the TV doesnt. The TV has a HDMI jack and the red, white, and yellow cables. Is there a way to convert s-video to HDMI or is there any other way to play movies from my laptop on the TV? Also, will I get sound from the TV? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If I understand your question correctly, Apple TV is unique as a set top box that streams audio/video media from the computer to the TV sourced from Itunes. No other product on the market does this, yet. All other set top boxes stream media from the tv to the computer or phone. The Apple TV can be purchased for $99 then plugged in by an HDMI cable, fairly simple.
When i plug my HDMI lead from my laptop to tv nothing hapens and it should show my laptop screen on my tv anybody got anything they know wil work for this.
Make sure the laptop is set to output video to the HDMI port. By default it is turned off.
I figured out how to get my tv on the HDMI input. It’s saying there’s no signal from my laptop, because I’m not sure how to make my laptop connect with the tv.
My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv7
Most common problem using HDMI with laptops is multi monitor settings… there is normally a functions button that will change from laptop screen to hdmi then to both on my laptop it is fn+f3 should have a picture of two screens on it.
If that fails right click on the desktop and go to you display properties there should be an option to extend your display or duplicate normally you want to duplicate them, Hope that helped if still not working Open your Nvidia or ATI control Center and play around
I thought my TV and Laptop could do this wirelessly, but I thought wrong. The manual says I need a cord to plug into the TV in order to record it (or watch it on my laptop)
What cord is it?
I am sorry but unless you specify the make and model of both your TV and your laptop that question CANNOT be answered accurately. It ism possible to look up the manuals for each to determine which input and output software and, from that, offer cable options.
There are wireless options but again it is determined by the hardware that is installed in your particular equipment.
