The best option is always to run an Ethernet wire from the router to the device.

You can get a wireless repeater that will pick up the signal and rebroadcast it, or a router with repeater capability (in this case you would turn off the routing features)

Alternatively you can experiment with third party antennas for the router, which don.t boost the signal but they focus the available WiFi power into a narrower field of coverage. This will reduce the signal levels in other parts of the house which are not in the direction of the antenna.

If you want to stream video using your own computer, you will need a powerful computer and Internet connection along with professional streaming software. if you’re going this route, check out Adobe Visual Communicator. It’s expensive, but still one of my favorite recording/broadcasting programs.

we have never done that. Personally I don’t see the point. If you spend too much time doing those things the key is not to give it up completely for one week and then go right back to it, the key is to work on limiting it on a regular basis and adding in other things like board games and walks outside instead. When I have felt in the past that my kids were spending too much time on anything screen time I would just set a limit and stick to it. Same thing for myself. Moderation is the key…giving it up completely for any length of time just makes it even more appealing.

Nightmare so far. We are trying to keep the TV off for two weeks instead of one because the longer we leave it off the less likely my daughter is going to be glued to it again. We unplugged the TV on Thursday and put it away in the attic. Since then my daughter has done nothing but scream and cry, however she has been easier to put to sleep because all the screaming has tired her out.
She is only two but she is glued to the TV, has little interest in anything else but my husband and I aren’t TV people. She is just really into the TV and neither of us understand why. She sits in front of it even when off which is why we put it in the attic. I want her to be off the hook of the TV by the time the twins come as I want her to try and be involved even if it is just picking up clean nappies.
Hopefully tomorrow she won’t ask about the TV if we manage to get out of the house and go on the river like we had planned to do today but never did.

I try to get out as much as possible with my daughter, and although shes only three, I don’t like having her watch TV as much as she does. I guess you could consider it being a electronic free week while my hubby took off of work for a week this summer and we spent the whole time outside except one night we went to the movies, otherwise the only TV she watched was in the morning getting ready. It went well I’d say, it was a nice break not just for her but for the all of us.

They did a show on this on NPR just the other day. I think it’s a great idea, I think we’d all go crazy in this family (but probably be a lot more active and interact more!)

No, but my kids dont really watch much tv, maybe a show a day if theres honestly nothing better to do. Its summer, theres way too many things going on outside and with their friends for them to be sitting around in front of the tv. Shark Week was the one exception. It just wouldnt really have a point, they would be like "okay…why." But good for you though, it sounds like a good idea to get away from the tv and enjoy summer, theres so many things going on just passing by.
