Why is TV signal so much faster than Internet?
I mean why can I record 2 movies and watch a third on satellite tv all in HD when it would take me days to download 3 movies of HD quality on the internet? Why can’t internet speed be as fast as satellite tv?
Because you are picking up a broadcast signal with TV, whereas you are one of many people downloading an individual file to an individual computer when you are downloading. With TV, only one signal is being sent by the whole system, whereas with the internet, many different signals are being sent simultaneously.
Bandwidth is expensive. Broadcasting to multiple users at once n Satellite and cable reduces the cost of bandwidth

Cable TV or Sat TV signals are one way. Internet connections are two way and shared. The broadband now is not good enough for GB speeds. But wait for a few years, internet speeds would be in terabyte range once they comeup with better media and technology.

It is definitely due to the broad band that you are picking a broadcast .

You are governed by your Internet provider.whether they are allowing 10mbps.download or 512 kbps.whether you are Dial up or broadband how far you are from your ISP server, how many "Jumps" it takes to get to where you want to be,how many packets are lost on the way to destination. It is comparing apples to oranges.Satellite is streaming signal internet is packets. This is a very poor attempt to explain a complex system.Hopefully someone with a tech background will jump in.This is not an answer completely, just a small heads up.
