Detect Qam TV channels through Internet cable?

Filed under: internet tv channels — admin @ 10:42 am

Is it possible to use a Qam detecting device to pick up Qam HDTV channels from an active broadband Internet line, when you have any kind of TV subscribtion? No guesses, please. I want to hear from people who can actually do this or know somebody who has. Thanks!
I’m talking about picking up Qam channels on the broadband cable line, not an ethernet line. I have Comcast, so the internet and tv come thru the cable. I was thinking of ditching my TV subscription (but keeping the internet) and was wondering if the device could still pick up channels…

Impossible.

QAM is an analog modulated signal.

Ethernet is all packet-based.

  2. Your cable modem cannot tune QAM cable. You need a separate box to tune QAM channels.

If your cable provider is doing their job, they will trap out as much, if not all, of the TV programming, so a QAM tuner will get nothing.
