Watch Satellite TV On Your PC

Is it possible to get HDTV on my TV, not on my computer, without subscribing to cable or satellite?

Filed under: satellite tv computer — admin @ 4:09 am

I am also lookin at buying a PVR and would like to know if in addition to the Evesham iplayer are there any others with HDTV upscaling in the pipeline.

It all depends where you are- but in many cities, over the air broadcasts are now being done in HDTV. So- you'll need an Antenna and HD tuner. Not all TVs come with HD tuners, especially if you just buy a monitor- but most integrated units do. So, then all you'll need is an antenna… if you're in the right cities.

Here are the stations currently broadcasting:

  1. Yes, it's very possible. You just need an HD antenna.

  2. Sky and digital broadcasters are the only ones broadcasting in HD at the moment. Others will follow though.
Currently, the only way to get HD without Sky etc is on your Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo Wii or a 'Blue Ray' or HDDVD player.

  3. No its not possible to get HDTV.

only SKY and telewest offer this service (Satellite and Cable)

however, get yerself a HD-DVD player, XBOX 360 or HD Upscaling player and you can enjoy HD :)

  5. I currently use DishNetwork for HDTV, and I also have a RCA Antena which is good enough to get Local channels in HD. You dont need to subscribe to get the Local HDs.

  6. Yes, you can use an over the air antenna. If your hd tuner is QAM enabled you can also pick up unencrypted digital signals from your cable provider also (ie. hd locals & probably a few other digital stations).
There are hd capable dvr's on the market but they mostly seem to be available through cable & satelitte providers.

  7. You didn't say if your TV is HiDef ready (no tuner, but HD capable), or if it's an HDTV (with built-in tuner). That's the first obstacle to overcome.

If in fact, you have an "HD ready" TV, or an HDTV, then yes, you can receive OTA (over the air) HD broadcasts, but you will need an antenna and be in an area that doesn't have any obstructions (mountains, buildings) that would impede your ability to receive OTA HD broadcasts.

If you do NOT have a TV that's HD compatible, then no matter what you do, you will not be able to receive HD programming.
