My laptop has a HDMI port, and came with the cable (HDMI) so I plug that into my TV and it work..

So all you need is..
A laptop that has the port
A hdmi cable ( you can always buy one for like 10-20 dollars)
and a tv that supports HDMI and has the port, most modern day TV has it.

Once you plug everything in, mess around with the TV menu, and probably your laptop setting too.
References :
You mean like this? http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f347/armchairaviator/computer/IMG_0880c.jpg

My computer has a DVI port, which is compatible with the HDMI ports on the HDTV. It's connected using a DVI-to-HDMI cable. As you can see in the photo, it works perfectly.
