If you have no speakers, then you have to listen to the sound from the laptop speakers. If you have an HDMI connection, it will carry sound to the TV.

The monitor cable from the laptop to the TV only transmits the video so it is necessary to plug in the surround sound separate otherwise all you have is the flat sound playing on the laptop.

I don’t know. Some people are able to get it to work on their old TV’s. We were not able to get it to work on our analog TV but the HD worked.

It is called an RGB …
It is called an RGB monitor cable. The TV book called it RGB. You can Google it and it is called RGB.
