Try one of these options:
A. You can get an Xbox 360 or Ps3 and use programs like windows media center or other free apps like connect 360 (for mac).

B. Get a graphics card with HDMI out like this:

and set screen options to duplicate (basically using the HDTV as a monitor showing the same thing you see on the PC), with some graphics cards you might have to download separate drivers to do this.

It might be backwards what you're trying to do
