What model Samsung TV, and what model Inspiron? Are you using SVideo? Are you using VGA? Blue ends? What does that mean? Yes, there is a setting needed. You look at the back of the TV where you have the cable plugged in, and you read what INPUT that is... whether it is Video1 or Video 2 or VGA in or what-have-you... then you hit your Input button on the remote... the button that changes between inputs. You make sure the laptop is sending the signal to the alternate output, it came with instructions, and there is a manual that came with the computer that shows you how, and is also available for download at http://support.dell.com which I cannot link you to since I don't know the model of your Inspiron.

Right-click on your desktop and go to "properties" depending on whether you are using xp, vista, or seven things will look a little different but navigate to your display settings and choose the setting for multiple monitors.
