ummm. when you sit to close to it/them.
i would know.
all my life, i heard..
"scoot back"
or what not.
but yeah.
if you get really close to the screen, then you'll end up getting glasses...like me.
References :
my sitting close to tv/computer screens = my close-blindedness

There is absolutely no radiation being emitted from a TV or a monitor.

TV doesn't cause any eye problems either. They are far enough away that distance vision is being used.

Monitors can cause eyestrain when used for too long , because it is constant close vision... but that is just a temporary discomfort.

Try and keep your monitor 28 to 30 inches away, and take very frequent breaks to look away from the screen.
References :
Optician
